Press release - American Revolution to attend Atlantic Alliance Cup, London, October 4-11, 2001
The US Australian football national team, the "American Revolution", will be one of five nations (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Denmark) competing in the inaugural Atlantic Alliance Cup in London, in October 2001. To date, the Revolution has an undefeated record in internationals against Canada, and this tournament will see the team tested against new rivals in the leadup to the inaugural International Cup in Melbourne in August 2002.
The team selection process will follow the successful open selection model used in 2000. Nominated players will be assessed by a panel of experienced selectors across the nation, with the final squad of 25, along with 5 alternates, to be named July 15th 2001. The team will then meet in Washington, DC, on the 4th October for a training session, team meeting and dinner, before departure to London the following day.
