Big Apple Hosts EAFL Coalition Clinic This Weekend
Developing American players from all over the East Coast will gather this weekend in New York, taking part in the first ever EAFL Coalition clinic.
First announced back in March, the clinic will help hone the skills of players not only on the ground, but off of it as well. In addition to game skills, there will be sessions in strategic theory that will help augment their performance on the field.
Hosted by the New York Magpies, a total of four clubs will be represented this weekend. Also on hand will be interim USA Revolution coach Dan Sarbacker, who will be a keen observer of the proceedings. With the Revos’ first camp of the new International Cup cycle happening next month in Nashville, this will be a great chance for some of the players to get a look.
“We are extremely excited to host players from Philly, Boston and Baltimore at what hopefully will be the first of many inter-team trainings geared toward developing American born players,” said Coalition coordinator, Mike Murphy. “We have a great support staff of Aussie players and coaches who have played to a high standard back home. It is bound to be a very fun and informative training for all involved, raising the standard across the EAFL.”
And that last sentence is the most important part of the clinic, and of the Coalition. While a shot at the National team is nice, the goal is for the players to take back everything they learn in New York back to their clubs, lifting the quality up and, hopefully, that of the region in general.
Activities will include fundamental skills training, position-specific sessions, and some fitness work. There will also be strategic meetings, and a gathering at the Australian Pub in mid-town Manhattan, the official sponsor of the Magpies.
