Are you the next American Footy Star?

The Australian Consulate General's residence in Brentwood, CA, was the scene for the red-carpet launch of the American Footy Star concept on Saturday night, May 8.

Acting and sporting celebrities were on hand to learn a little more about the unique game of Australian Football and the goal of this exciting program. Successful FIFA talent scout and agent, Miro Gladovich, is determined to create a channel to identify new Australian football recruits in the United States. The intention is to host talent scouting combines, the first of which will be in Dallas in the summer of 2010.

The most suitable candidate will be given the opportunity to travel to Australia for testing in the Australian Football League (AFL) National Rookie Draft in late 2010. The ultimate goal is to have this player selected by one of two new AFL clubs, either the Gold Coast or Western Sydney.

Mr. Gladovich is currently looking to gain support for the concept both in the United States and in Australia. He is also developing an instructional DVD tailored to the American audience.

The evening was hosted by Aussie actor and TV presenter, Mr. Cameron Daddo and the main focus was a video presentation on the development of the concept thus far, including the support of the AFL and AFL players and coaches such as Cameron Mooney, Jimmy Bartell, Robert "Dipper" DePierdomenico, Brenton Sanderson and Jason McCartney.

The AFL was represented by Mr Tony Woods, the newly appointed International Market Development Manager. The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) was represented by the men's National Team Coach, Mr. Matt Bishop and local Orange County Bombers President, Mr. Corey Irwin.
