Cont. Demons slide home in KC
Having been blessed with dry weather all season, KC's Metro 3 gave many their first taste of wet weather footy, as the heavens opened and Gilham Park became a frat house slip-n-slide.
Despite the heavy downpour that greeted the players and small crowd in the first quarter, those present were certainly entertained as the previously undefeated Demons and Tigers fought out a nail-biter.
The Big Cats made good use of a handy breeze first up, and went into the first change 3 goals up. But the Demons move of swapping rookie Caleb Dougherty into the middle paid off, as he began racking up the possessions. This, coupled with Matt Greenstein running amuck across half-forward, helped the Demons reduce the deficit to a solitary point at the main break.
From there the two sides were neck-and-neck, throughout a second half which featured some inspiring smothers, terrific tackles and goals that even Ronaldinho would have been impressed with. Tiger Trevor Miller and Demon Jason Ciemiga fought hard in the ruck, while on-ballers Travis Kistler and Derek Heathcoat tried valiantly all day to get the Big Cats home.
In the end, it was the Demons by 3 points, catapulting them to top spot on the KC Metro ladder. For the Tigers, a hungry Lions outfit awaits. Their battle this week will go a long way to determining which teams remain in the hunt for August glory.
Final scores:
KC Demons 10-17 - 77
