Tigers prevail in KC Metro opener

On a perfect day for footy, the KC metro season kicked off, with an encouraging crowd witnessing a hard fought 8 point win for the Tigers.

Preseason form may have led many to believe that this game would have been an easy 4 points for the Black and Gold squad, but the Lions were a vastly improved outfit from the group that took the field in last month's Kirkie Cup.  Better balanced and with this year's rookies having had two more weeks of practice under their belts, the Lions took it right up to their more experienced opponents.  Strong tackling down back by Wallace and Phelps meant the Tigers had to work hard for every point, while Kistler and Amick were their usual damaging selves, creating many scoring opportunities for their forwards.

But an abundance of youthful exuberance couldn't get the Pride over the line.  Each surge of momentum was met with an experienced Tiger wall in the form of Scott or Cameron.  While the quick hands of Snyder and the inspiring marks and running of Santacruz provided the Tigers with plenty of successful forward ventures.

At the end of the day it was an 8 point victory for the Black and Gold, but everyone left Gilham Park knowing that the inaugural KC Metro League is well and truly up for grabs.
