Kangaroos Back on Track With Home Win Over Tigers
Only one week after losing to the MAAFL leaders Chicago United, the Kangaroos footballers were back in action, and after three straight road games, were more than happy to be back in the comfort of Elmington Park. The weather "cooperated" by not having a torrential six-inch downpour during the game (remember Lake Elmington?), and the temperature stayed below 100 degrees for the first time all week.
The 100+ spectators were treated to a great football contest between the revitalized Kangaroos, who have more than half their players in their rookie season, and the rapidly improving Baton Rouge Tigers. Last year the contest was very lopsided, but this year, the Roos carried a tenuous lead into the fourth quarter before putting on a 33-point blitz to solidify the win, 15.15.105 over 6.7.43.
The Tigers are only three years old, but Coach/President Pat Muller has done a great job recruiting (they brought 16 guys to the game) and building the LSU program as a recruiting ground, not unlike the relationhip between the Kangaroos and Vanderbilt. At this rate, the Roos would be well advised not to look past the Tigers next year as they appear to be poised to strike hard next season and are certainly hungry for their first win against the Roos.
