Atlanta & Ft Lauderdale visit Redbacks

It was a talented group of primarily new players supported by a small number of experienced players. They were ready to play and played well. Congratulations. Go Redbacks !!!!

Florida wins over Atlanta May 12
Atlanta returned to Florida to challenge again on the field where each team previously has won a game over the other. A talented group of Kookaburra players challenged a full squad of Redbacks. The first quarter was competitive and even, as both teams played hard. The second quarter saw Florida push ahead by maintaining strong and consistent play and delivering well into the forward line for accurate shots at goal. Florida surged in the third quarter, with better goal production in the forward lines and sustained defensive pressure in the back lines. Kicking with the breeze in the fourth quarter, the Kookaburras quickly scored a couple of goals to move closer and gain a menacing momentum in their game, but the Redbacks defenses tightened effectively and the midfield dominated, steadied, and kicked the goals needed to seal the fate of the game, a home victory for the Florida Redbacks. It was a great game of footy for both teams and for the Redbacks many fans, including the moms and mums who came to watch the game on Mother's Day weekend.

Special mention, Dawn our runner who covered more distance than anyone and Kelly for getting roped into delivering water!

After giving so much of themselves in four quarters against Atlanta, a particularly hardy group of 14 Redback players returned shortly thereafter to play a game against the Ft Lauderdale Squids.

The fresher squids splashed out to an impressive 21 point lead after the 20 minutes in the first half. The Redbacks would not go down easily. They came back with some second half bite to outscore the Squids by 5 points in the second half. It was a very impressive effort even with players succumbing to cramps and exhaustion. We can hardly wait to play Ft Lauderdale next time with full sides.
