OC Bombers Defeat San Diego at Staples Center

It’s been home to some of the most storied franchises in sports. From the Lakers, to the Clippers and the Kings, legends have graced its floor. Last Friday night Staples Center saw two more legendary teams do battle as the Orange County Bombers faced off against the San Diego Lions.

The game, which was played after an LA Avengers arena football game, was modified to fit the small field. Goals were set up with six and three pointers, while 7 players per team were on the field. The result was a fast paced and hard hitting affair.

Although the game was only an exhibition, it was obvious from the first bounce that both sides were taking it very seriously. San Diego would lead for most of the match, as their veteran players were able to control a lot of the ball. The fourth quarter, however, saw an inspired comeback by the Bombers. The result had OC pulling out a hard fought come from behind win. OC 75, SD 73.

Thanks very much to both clubs who helped make the event a success. Over 200 tickets were sold, resulting in a good crowd watching the game. Judging by the spectator’s noise, all in attendance got more than their money’s worth. No doubt this warm up to the regular season will only add to the adrenaline when these two square off as 18-a-side teams.
