Seedings for 2006 Nationals
Division 1 will be decided in the following manner:
The top 2 teams from the EAFL, MAAFL, and the Western Regionals (as determined by the format selected by the respective regional leagues, whether it be ladder results or tournament results) will take the first 6 places in this Division.
The remaining 2 places will be taken by one team from both the Eastern United States and the Western United States, with the dividing line being the Mississippi River.
Criteria for wild card selection:
- Performance within own league, i.e. how they played against the teams that have already made Division 1 for that season.
- Type of games played, i.e. full matches versus tournament games (which can have a big bearing on percantage).
If a final criterion is needed an option will be to look to the last Nationals as a guide.
Comments on the seeding process:
It is impossible to completely discuss the rationale for the seedings. Seeding is a difficult task, especially given the complexity inherent in a national competition (e.g. trying to compare teams that never played each other during the season, or did not play many or any games during the season). The goal of the seedings is to promote a lively and balanced competition based on the information available. The nature of this task is inherently imperfect, and although we know this subject could be fodder for endless debate, we assure you that we will do our best.
