2018 USAFL Honor Roll

With a hard fought 2018 campaign put to stern, USAFL clubs around the country took the chance to reflect, celebrate and recognize those who made their clubs go on and off the field.  From November all the way through mid-January, each team held awards nights, some wrapped around their club's AGM with an eye to the future.

Some clubs' celebrations were ecompassing of a historical milestone in their club's history.  In Philadelphia and Seattle, for example, both clubs celebrated their 20th anniversary, honoring those that helped build those organizations oh so many years ago (or at least 1998).  In Philly, those who drank from the D3 National Champions cup in Racine last October were toasted by those who had one the club's first D3 flag all the way back in 2002.  At the shindig in the Emerald City, the Grizzlies' 20th Anniversary team was announced as they commerated the efforts of their Women's Division 1 Runner Up performance.

Individually speaking, though Aussie veterans drew B&F honors across the land on the men's side, some top spots were garnered by American players.  Some of them included Joey Luto as the Arizona Outlaws' first winner, Erik Hansen winning the medal from North Carolina, and Kendall "Rabbit" Hutchings out in Sacramento.  For the women, perrenial winners such as Portland's Simone Shepherd and San Francisco's Jess Estrada were joined by new names, including Rookie Dani Marshall from the Arizona Hawks, veteran Erin Shaeffer-Graham from Sacramento, and sophamore midfielder Yuie Kawakatsu from Los Angeles.  The "age is just a number" win of the season might have come from Philadelphia, where 47-year old Barbara Dempsey walked off with the Lady Hawks' Andrew Lochhead medal for Best and Fairest.

Congratulations to everyone on their hard work this season!
