Chicago Launches Womens Team
It’s with great delight that the Chicago Swans officially announce the Chicago Swans Women’s team.
The Chicago Swans have been an integral part of the US footy community since the mid 90s, and off the back of growing popularity of Women’s AFL across the world the Club are excited to launch the Swans Women’s team in 2018.
Club President Stu Nicol says female players have always been involved at the club, but will now be able to officially represent Chicago as the Swans Women’s at this year’s USAFL Regionals tournament in Nashville, TN and the Nationals tournament in Racine, WI.
“The backbone of our club is the belief that everyone is welcome to come and play footy. That belief rings more true today than ever before, and we are extremely happy to welcome more female players down to the club to train as one team and represent the Chicago Swans in the Women’s competitions.”
The last few years have seen incredible growth in Women’s AFL as one of the fastest growing sports in Australia with females now accounting for 30% of the 1.5million players in the country, and the popularity is clearly filtering through to international leagues.
The Chicago Swans Club invite anyone interested in playing or learning AFL to come down to training, held every Wednesday from 6.30pm at Waveland Park.
