Development Squad players wanted: Nominate your club’s promising new players!
The USA Revolution and Development teams are gearing up to clash with Canada this Summer in the 2013 49th Parallel Cup, held on August 3rd in Edmonton.
The 49th Parallel Cup is played between the U.S. and Canada each of the two years preceding an International Cup year, the next being in 2014. In 2010 an Under 23 Revolution team was drawn together for the very first time and defeated Canada as a curtain raiser to the women’s and men’s 49th Parallel Cup games. Last year that same Development Squad persevered through extreme heat and finished the game without an interchange to come out victorious against their Canadian counterparts. It set the tone for a great day of footy for the U.S. sides.
The Development Squad has become an important component of talent identification and development for the Revolution. Six players from that first squad were subsequently selected in the Revolution squad that traveled to Australia for the 2011 International Cup including one being selected in an honorary World Team. An even larger number of former Development Squad players will suit up against Canada this year. We aim to continue to identify younger players showing promise and interest in playing footy at a higher level and look to the clubs across the US to encourage their players to join us.
To Nominate
To help prepare a very competitive Development Squad Coach Dan Sarbacker would appreciate any nominations for players under the age of 25 from any USAFL clubs. These players must be willing to travel to Edmonton, Canada for the game on August 3. If you wish to nominate a player please contact Coach Sarbacker by June 30.
