2013 Minnesota Freeze Exemption Request for Rebecca Viot

Player:
Rebecca Viot
Exemption Type:
Nationality
Reason:
Rebecca was born in Seoul South Korea and has lived in the USA since she was a young child. She just started playing footy this year at the age of 46. While the 50/50 rule is not an issue in the women's game, it is within the spirit of the league policy of granting nationality exemptions to all players who are not Australian or Irish.
League Ruling
Status:
Granted
Reason:
The nationality rule is intended to prevent teams from playing with a large number of players who grew up playing Australian for even Gaelic football. If this were allowed, all teams would have to do the same in order to be competitive, and this would limit the opportunity of players who are new to the game. The goal of the USAFL is to increase the number of people learning and playing the game in the US. The nationality rule is intended to encourage the type of player named in this exemption request, and the tournament committee believes that granting this exemption will be good for the growth of the player in question and the league. For this reason, this exemption request is being granted.
