Game Day Checklist

This checklist is a tool for you to use prior to and on game days to ensure that all details have been taken care of to provide a positive experience for your club and all visiting teams.  You should add any items that are specific to your club to make sure all aspects are covered.

This list may not cover all applicable items specific to your situation.  Please keep in mind that there may be other important items that are not listed:

I. Pre-Game Planning

a. Venue

  • Field use permit(s) acquired
  • Certificate of liability insurance (requested from USAFL Communications Manager) acquired
  • Field checked for debris or harmful areas
  • Field lined

b. Medical Personnel

  • Confirm CAT/EMT coverage
  • Detail emergency plan with medical support personnel

c. Team Registration Compliance

  • Confirm opposing team roster with club secretary
  • Confirm that all players and coaches are listed and USAFL is current
  • Print out match day team sheets for umpire (see Appendix for Official Match Day Team Sheets)

d. Media/Promotion

  • Contact local media
  • Make sure media have a contact number on game day
  • Post fliers/posters advertising game
  • Develop game day programs w/rosters, ads, etc.

II. Pre-Game Communication – should be done well ahead of time

a. Opposing match secretary

  • Confirm player eligibility rules (e.g. nationality, non-national rules, 50/50 etc.)
  • Confirm kickoff time(s)
  • Confirm match length(s)
  • Confirm travel time to field
  • Confirm second side match (if applicable)
  • Provide clear directions to field
  • Review emergency medical plan
  • Confirm jersey colors in case of conflict

b. Umpire

  • Confirm kickoff time(s)
  • Confirm match length(s)
  • Confirm second side match (if applicable)
  • Confirm availability of boundary and goal umpires

c. Your Team

  • Confirm kickoff time(s)
  • Confirm expected travel time/meeting place
  • Confirm time to be dressed and ready for warm up
  • Confirm selections (optional)
  • Confirm individual USAFL registrations
  • Confirm second side match (if applicable)
  • Confirm individual responsible for jumpers (and their delivery)
  • Confirm duties on game day/identify personnel
  • Confirm equipment necessary for game day and individual(s) responsible for providing the following:
  • Goal umpire flags
  • Goal posts
  • Field lining equipment
  • Practice balls
  • Match balls
  • Cones

d. Medical Personnel

  • Confirm kickoff time(s)
  • Confirm match length(s)
  • Confirm coverage for pre-game treatment (i.e., taping for home and visiting team, etc.)
  • Confirm coverage for second side match (if applicable)
  • Directions to field
  • Review emergency medical plan

III. Game Day

  • Ensure proper field markings
  • Set up field
  • Set up tent for home and visiting team warm-up area (cones, balls, etc.)
  • Provide water for visiting team
  • Captain to greet opposing team, umpire
  • Confirm starting lineup
  • Review plays and confirm game plan

IV. Post Game Procedure

  • Confirm final score with umpire
  • Collect jumpers
  • Collect equipment – balls, cones, other
  • Break down field
  • Pick up all trash/debris
  • Follow up with score/match report to USAFL
  • Confirm compliance with field policy on break down and clean up of field & facilities

Note:  Home teams should provide water and tent/shade for visiting team.
