2011 USA Revolution Squad Announced!

Monday, March 14 - In anticipation of the largest ever AFL International Cup, to be held in Australia during August this year, Revolution Coach Matt Bishop has named the 2011 Revolution squad.

Twenty-four teams from all over the world will participate in the fourth AFL International Cup and the expectations on the U.S.A. team are high.  “Ideally we would like to exceed our best ever performance of a 3rd place finish and play in the Grand Final to be played at the home of Australian Football, the Melbourne Cricket Ground,” said Coach Bishop.

The squad was finalized after the team training camp that was held in Austin, Texas, over the weekend of February 25-27. The players were chosen from an extensive list of quality candidates that have been involved with the Revolution during 2009 and 2010, including two successful 49th Parallel Cup campaigns against the Canadian Northwind.

Prime Minister Gillard meets with the New York Magpies

During her recent trip to the USA, the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, dropped in to pay a visit to to the New York Magpies at thier sponsor pub, The Australian in Manhattan, NY.  The purpose of her visit in New York was to thank the Australian expat community for their fundraising efforts for the recent flood victims of Australia.

The Eagles are one of the founding clubs of the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) and have been a top five ranked Div 1 team for the past three seasons. The Freedom Prepare for Australia

The USA Freedom are preparing for their first ever AFL International Cup tour to Australia later this year. “I’m extremely excited to be coaching the Freedom at their first big international tournament” said Coach, Leigh Barnes, “this is going to be a fantastic experience for both the players and coaching staff and the event will mark a significant achievement in the history of women’s footy in the U.S.”.

Barnes recently appointed a number of key individuals to the Freedom coaching staff to assist in the preparation of the team for the International Cup. “I am also pleased to announce the appointment of the leadership group who I think will really help make this campaign a success” he continued.

Movember 2010 Results!

Andy Vanica

The USAFL joined in the Movember cause by growing mustaches and raising over $10,000 during the month formally called November. Worldwide, Movember raised nearly $63.5 million US dollars that will go towards cancer research. A big thank-you and congratulations to Andy Vanica of the Denver Bulldogs and USAFL Vice-President West, for not only getting behind this great cause from Day 1 and driving it, but for doing such an amazing job, individually raising more than $1,500 making him the highest sponsored USAFL Mo' Bro for 2010! Well done Andy on such a tremendous effort! Also congratulations to Joshua Anfinson of the Seattle Grizzlies on a VERY close second place.

Calling all players! The USA Freedom is accepting nominations from players who wish to try out for the 2011 team which will travel to Australia to play in the first ever Women's Division of the International Cup.The Freedom Training Camp, Februaru 25-27 in Austin, Texas, will be the last opportunity for players to try out for the squad.

The USAFL will be holding a training camp for the USA Revolution and USA Freedom teams in Austin, Texas the weekend of February 25-27. The Revolution Coaches will be focusing on the preparation of players for the International Cup in Australia, in August 2011, and the camp will be used to finalize the squad for this tournament. Attendance at the camp is by invitation only.

Barnes Coaching for Freedom

The USAFL is excited to announce the appointment of Leigh Barnes, former Executive Board Member and long time USAFL player, umpire, coach and administrator as the new national women's team coach. “We are extremely pleased to have Barnesy on-board as the Freedom’s Head Coach, he brings with him many years of playing and coaching experience and a good nature that will enable him to bond well from day one with the team”, says Rich Mann, USAFL President.
