Western Regionals

The Orange County Bombers are pleased to announce the venue for the 2nd Western Regional Championships will be the University of California – Riverside (UCR) to be held on September 10, 2005.

The field is booked from 7am to 11pm, and the excellent lighting facilities mean that night games will be played for the first time as part of a major US Australian Football tournament. Depending on the number of games required, we have the option of having early and late games, thus avoiding the hottest part of the day as well as enabling the tournament to be wrapped up in the one day, giving players the luxury of not having to pull up for a game Sunday morning.

While Riverside is not actually in Orange County but an hour’s drive inland, the surface and facilities on offer are just too good to pass up. The field is not huge, but is of similar dimensions to the Sydney Cricket Ground, just slightly longer and narrower. The surface is about as good as it gets, often referred to as a “billiard table”. There are great hotels within walking distance, and we will be setting up some deals with them once we have a better idea of numbers.  The nearest airport is Ontario International, which is only 15 minutes from UCR and a major hub. Although the event is going under the banner of the Western Regionals, it is open to all clubs in the USAFL who might want to participate in the tournament as a warm up to the Nationals 3 weeks later.
