Chicago United host the old and the new

With many club players from around the country away from this weekend for the International Cup in Australia there are very few games scheduled over the next few weeks. Chicago United however have stepped up and organized a mini tournament this Saturday in the windy city.

Coming along are the Milwaukee Bombers clear leaders now in the MAAFL and looking to take home that trophy they will test out the United squad for 2x20 minutes halves before playing a full MAAFL game in a few weeks. Both teams are sure to let a few of the newer players take the field and get some experience. The newest team out there the Columbus Jackaroos are heading up also to play their 3rd and 4th games in their inaugural season.

Chet Ridenour tells us "Columbus is looking to get that live, real, full-on game experience that as a new team we're sorely lacking.  With only three players having ever played before this season, and 1 is coaching, out with an injury we'll go just about anywhere, within reason for a game.  We've had all away games so far, and so we're hoping to play half our home games next year in Columbus."

"This match will be a true test for us.  Going up against the 1st & 2nd ranked MAAFL teams will really show us where we are, where we need improvement, what are strengths and weaknesses are, as we still are looking to get players into the position best fit for them."

"More than anything, we're looking to build that team bonding, and camaraderie between this core of 10-15 players that seem to make it to every training, social or game event.  I want to give the guys a taste of a true road social, party atmosphere, as Chicago is well-known for being excellent hosts and throwing a great party." Chet told us this morning.

The Columbus Jackaroos will have their newest website online shortly too we are told. Version 2.0 already so things are really moving there.

Big Al McGlashan in Chicago is looking forward to the weekend as well, maybe not for the same reasons but he did tell us they rarely play this 2 x 20 format during the playing year so it will be good practice towards the Nationals in October.

It was also thought if the umpire gave him a fair go he could kick a few goals. We will wait and see about that. Good luck Al and the rest of the players in Chicago this weekend for footy and little bit of fun too we are sure.
