The Golden Gate Roos Welcomes 'The Great Outdoors'

It is with much pleasure that I can announce the hit Australian TV show, “The Great Outdoors”, will be in attendance at our Super Bowl party on Sunday, February 4th. Andrew Daddo and his crew will begin the day by taping a segment with the President of the GGAFL, which would be me, at Sam’s Café in beautiful Tiburon. Most of this segment will be about the Australian way of life in the Bay Area, the reasons we are here, etc, as well as life in the States. From there, we head to Pleasant Hill Middle school for the first training run of the year, which will also be part of the show. We promise to put on as good a show as we can, given the 3 month lay off since the Nationals, but they can do wonderful things with editing these days, so we should come up okay. We hope to have over 30 players on the track, all in the Golden Gate jumpers, with a good sprinkling of Australian/American players with some new recruits thrown in the deep end as well.

The next stage of the program is to head back to my place for the Super Bowl party itself, which promises to be spectacular. We have some traditional American activities planned, such as a Chili Cook off, Pools on the game and a couple of kegs of beer. To add the Australian touch to the occasion, we have ordered 6 dozen meat pies, so all tastes should be accommodated. Andrew and his crew are keen to talk to the Aussies in attendance, as well as the yanks, especially the good people that made the trek with us to Vegas at last years Nationals.

The show will air sometime later in the year, so when I know some more I will pass it on. We will be a good part of a 15minute segment of the show, so that will be awesome exposure for us and the game in the States. I will try and plug all that we do for the game over here, but what comes out in the end will obviously be up to the show itself.

On behalf of the GGAFL, have a great Super bowl, may your team come out on top, and tee up your family and friends to watch “The Great Outdoors” later on in the year.

Cheers,
Leigh Barnes
