Tulsa, OKC Form Oklahoma Footy Club

The Tulsa Buffaloes and Oklahoma City Flyers are pleased to announce today a partnership in the creation of the Oklahoma Footy Club, representing all of the Sooner State.

Both the Buffaloes and Flyers will continue to operate as metro teams under the OFC banner, but will play as the Oklahoma Football Club for USAFL sanctioned matches, beginning with the 2017 USAFL National Championships in San Diego.

The Buffaloes were founded in 2010 and have experienced continued success, including a Division 3 appearance at the 2015 National Championships.  That year, a few members of the Buffaloes relocated to Oklahoma City and paired up with a few others that had been making the trek from OKC to play with Tulsa. Their rapid growth and excitement for footy led to the creation of their own OKC based metro team, The OKC Flyers.

“I’m very excited about this for a few reasons,” said OFC founder Dustin Brasel.  “Having two metro teams allows for each market to grow and expand its unique brand.  It also allows us the opportunity to have a competitive metro season, which will help with recruiting and sponsorships.  The more chances people have to experience footy, the better.

At the same time, because the state of Oklahoma has a relatively small population, it is imperative for the two teams to combine to take on other USAFL clubs.”

Oklahoma will take part in Division 4 at this year’s Nationals, and will face the Des Moines Roosters, Seattle Grizzlies reserves, and a combined Cincinnati / Indianapolis / Cleveland side in pool play.
