The Biggest Little City to Host Inaugural Western Regional Tournament

Up to ten USAFL teams will descend upon Reno, Nevada this September in the first ever Western Regional Tournament. Both mens and womens teams will compete in this one day event to help provide a more comprehensive method for ranking teams leading up to the USAFL National Tournament in October.

Brandon Blankenship, USAFL Vice President for the Western Region and President of the San Diego Lions, has been hard at work organizing this inaugural event.

“I'm really excited about the upcoming regional tournament. Not only will it give us the opportunity to provide better rankings for nationals but it will also give the teams in the west a good idea of how competitive they are compared to other teams leading up to nationals.  Additionally it gives everyone an opportunity to play more football, which is always a good thing" he said.

A few clubs are yet to confirm official attendance numbers but there are expected to be at least 8 men's and 4 women's teams competing. The results of the weekend will be used to rank teams into divisions and pools for the 2013 Nationals on October 19-20.

Games will be held at Village Center Park about 20 miles north of downtown Reno. Circus Circus, in downtown, will be the host hotel for the tournament where all participating teams  are required to stay.  This requirement is in place to help assist in covering the costs of the weekend. The League has negotiated a rebate with the host hotel based on the number of minimum room sales it provides. This rebate goes toward covering costs of the weekend such as field rental.

Teams must RSVP to Brandon and book their hotel rooms by Wednesday, August 14.
