Letter from the President | November 2012

Another season in the books! As I look back, the USAFL accomplished great things this year and I am very proud of all those involved.

During the year we achieved a number of big milestones, including successfully completing a Texas State Grant which refunded a large portion of the expenses from the 2011 Nationals. We conducted strategic meetings with AFL International Development Manager Tony Woods, two USAFL players competed with the World XVIII Team, we filed our annual tax forms and transitioned to a new League Treasurer, a 5-year Strategic Plan was set up, and we also conducted multiple umpires clinics across the country.

Letter from the President | September 2012

I believe this has been a year of many milestones for the USAFL. The Executive Board has been hard at work in planning for the future and it is very gratifying to have items fall into place. As a project within our 5 year strategic plan we will help the AFL conduct an annual combine in search of athletic talent. Australians in general are not growing to 6’5” and above, and the AFL is targeting US athletes that fit a certain physical profile.

A Call for Nationals – A behind-the-scenes debate has taken place within the executive board during the past month over the location of the national tournament for the years 2013 and 2014. The USAFL has committed to holding the event in Dublin, Ohio during one of these two years and the decision, no matter where it is held, will result in a group (or groups) of unhappy people for reasons such as the distance of travel,  time change or other reasons. A few of the factors taken into consideration for this decision, in no specific order, are as follows:

Letter from the President | July 2012

In April, the executive board met with AFL International Development Manager, Tony Woods, in Chicago. This meeting I believe, marks a turning point for the USAFL.

Letter from the President | June 2012

The season is fully upon us and games are being played throughout the country. As a reminder, please ensure that you have paid your USAFL Registration Dues. Why pay dues? It only increases toward Nationals and by paying you are helping the USAFL reach its goals. Register here »

Letter from the President | April 2012

We enter April on a somber note – the USAFL lost a member this week when Dallas Magpie Rob Rothlein passed away during the evening of March 26. “Rob was a member of the club for several years, a dedicated teammate, and “all around good guy”, said club president Stuart Rackham. During these times, we all wear one jumper, and personally, I am thankful to have this community as support. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Rob and his family.

Letter from the President | March 2012

Andy VanicaAs the new USAFL President, I’ve spent the past few months grasping the role. For those who do not know me, I’ve been involved with the league as a player since 2006 (Boston, Milwaukee and now Denver), a member of the USA Revolution since 2007, and executive board member since 2010. I’m honored that the clubs entrusted me with the position at the 2011 AGM, and I will work hard to ensure the league continues to grow.
