A Letter from the President to all former USAFL Players

Dear Former USAFL Player,

The 2014 AFL International Cup (IC14) is less than 14 days away. As you know, our players and staff are all volunteers and must fund their own trips to represent the USAFL at IC14, where it is estimated each member will spend a minimum of $4,000.

At 17 years of age, the USAFL is now old enough to establish a vibrant and functional Alumni. To kick off our Alumni drive, the USAFL is offering exclusive admission to the VIP section of the 2014 USAFL Nationals in Dublin, Ohio for any donations of $50 or more. Participants will be treated to free Coopers products on both the Saturday and Sunday at Nationals.

President's Blog: The Spirit

I recently had the pleasure to attend the inaugural Craig Ruggles Cup in Houston between the Baton Rouge Tigers and the Houston Lonestars. With the Cup being played in honor of the late Craig Ruggles of the Houston Lonestars, who tragically passed away not long after the 2013 USAFL Nationals, it was without question an emotional day.

President's Update: Settling In

How hard is it to believe its already been four weeks since Nationals? Its been a time for me to settle in to the role of President, finding out where the USAFL is at, what our processes are and seeing how all this ties into what I’d like to do going forward. I’ve also had some fires to put out, some expected, others not so much… It’s all good though, as part of my mindset going into this was to expect the unexpected!

What is perhaps the most important component to conducting an Aussies Rules game? Umpiring! Over the past few years, Umpire Director Jeff Persson has been hard at work, conducting clinics across the country. While Jeff is known for many things, such as his beard (where did it go?) and handing out yellow cards, he should be commended for his passion for officiating and helping develop the game across the country. A long term goal of the USAFL is to have an accredited umpire at each USAFL game and we are headed towards that milestone as last year over 100 people attended clinics.

Letter from the President | July 2013

This August the USA Revolution and USA Freedom travel to Edmonton, Canada for the 2013 49th Parallel Cup to defend victories from 2012. Over the past year, both programs have been busy preparing not only for the upcoming games, but looking towards the 2014 International Cup in Melbourne. As a member of the Revolution since 2007, I am very excited about the direction of the program under Coach Matt Bishop. During this time, I have also seen the Freedom grow, and at a recent camp, the team had 75 attending players!

Letter from the President | June 2013

The USAFL season is fully underway with USAFL games, metro-leagues, co-ed leagues, and 49th Parallel Cup preparations. We are continuing to make improvements on the League Management System (LMS) and development will be on-going. However, it is fully functioning and players can now review their participation and points earned.

Letter from the President | May 2013

As the season gets underway across the US, please remember to pay your USAFL dues. New this year is the League Management System (LMS), which has been created for transparency of participation during the season and determines Nationals eligibility based on the points earned for games played.

In order for points to be earned, the player must be registered and paid as a USAFL member for the season. For the points to be awarded, your club administrator must create a roster for each game and input the final score into the LMS.

Letter from the President | April 2013

The things that happen that the USAFL Community might not know about but are critical...

The off-season has many tasks that occur in the background that are critical to league operations. I feel these are important to highlight as the Executive Board invests our focus on these items. Some of them may seem small, yet very important and do take time. A few of these items we are currently working on (in no particular order) include:

Letter from the President | February 2013

While the players enjoy the off-season, the Executive Board and Program Coordinators have been busy at work. The winter months are filled with season wrap up, AFL reporting requirements, USAFL annual tax return preparation, and upcoming season planning. In the following months, I will update you on different activities and areas where the league needs volunteers.
